Born in 1852 in Oies, Tyrol; in 1875 ordained to the priesthood; in 1878 joined the Society of the Divine Word in Steyl; in 1879 together with Jan Anzer set out for China; in 1881 moved from Hong Kong to South Shantung that had been taken over from Franciscans; translated and edited the katechism in chineese; in 1894 had been moved to the new mission station in Wangchuang, where he worked in 1883-84; in 1900 nominated by Arnold Janssen provincial in South Shantung; died in 1908; beatified in 1975, canonized in October 2003
