The entertainers on the night were Philomena Begly, Brian Coll, Gene Stuart and other guests. They provided a good steady stream of enjoyable dance music the whole night long to the delight of the patrons. The programme yielded € 4,000. Fr. Anthony PUTUMANA our pioneer in Chad expressed amazement at the thought of people having a good time and raising money at the same time for the poor and for the victims of famine. In another attempt to help the mission, the parish priest of Swinford, Fr. Michael Joyce, decided to donate the collection during the week-end of August 6-7, 2005 to the bishop of Gore and to the SVD missionaries in the parish of Laramanaye, for famine relief and agricultural projects. The collection amounted to € 11,000. The town of Swinford had hosted the team from Chad during the memorable Special Olympics in Ireland in 2003. The people showed their continued love and care for the people of Chad with this magnificent gesture. Source: Arnoldus Nota
