He was hit on the head and face with a gun. During the scramble, Fr. Cabral managed to pull off the mask of one of his attackers and shout for help. Curiously, the watchman was absent. But the attackers flood the scene leaving their victim badly bruised. Some youth from the neighbourhood brought him to a nearby hospital, where the doctors stitched up his wounds. According to Fr. Cabral, the sole motive of the intrusion was to attack him, as they did not rob anything from the scene. It seems to have been ordered by the mafia of the town, whose ire Fr. Cabral had incurred by his opposition to their criminal activities. An article in the local newspaper “3 Fronteras” (3 Frontiers) had described the nexus between the administration and organized crime syndicate in the city. Source: Arnoldus Nota
