Papua New Guinea veterans gather

About 30 people from Germany, Ireland, Holland, Austria, Switzerland and Papua New Guinea gathered at the SVD house in Tirschenreuth from August 26-28, 2005.

What they had in common was that they were friends of PNG or had worked in the Diocese of Wewak at some time in the past.

The gathering was arranged and hosted by Fr. Joseph PIRZKALL, Paul SPIES and Martin NEUHAUSER (all ex-PNG) from the community of Tirschenreuth.

Other SVDs who were present were Joep HEINEMANS, Liam DUNNE, and Michael FIEDEL. Special guests present were Freddy Kell, (ex-SVD who worked in Wewak) and is now a Benedictine in the monastery of St. Ottilien, near Munich and Clements Papa, a priest of the Mount Hagen Archdiocese, who is currently studying in Rome.

Irene Callanan, a Sister of Mercy, who worked for over 40 years in Wewak, was also present. Many of the Austrian and German guests, former lay-missionaries who worked in Wewak Diocese including Dieter and Elly Fuhr were present as well.

It was a splendid occasion for friends of Wewak to meet once again and catch up on all the news from the past and the present.
