FLORES/INDONESIA
30,000 euros to fight against hunger

The SVD missionaries on the Indonesian islands Flores and Lembata received 30,000 euros to help the hungry. The money came from the Children’s Mission Work in Aachen and from the Federation of the German Catholic Youth (BDKJ).

Long periods of droughts and damage of land and crops by volcanic eruptions resulted in widespread famine in the islands. In Lembata (Ende) a complete harvest failed. So far 106 children have died as a consequence of the famine. The money is used to buy rice, fish and green peas. Number of girls and boys are also in need of medical help. (steyler.de)
